The moment you launch Greatis Software’s iGrid application, a drawing grid will show up on your desktop, taking up the entire screen and covering everything that you may have on it. By default, iGrid places the Orthogonal Advanced Medium grid on your screen. But if you go to the Settings menu you can switch to a different kind of Orthogonal grid, switch to an Axonometric or Handwriting grid, and even set up a custom grid.

Although iGrid hasn’t received an update in more than half a decade, Greatis Software says that this tool will work just fine on any Windows edition, from the incredibly old Windows 95 up to Windows 10, which is the latest version at the time of writing this. No matter what Windows OS you have, a simple setup wizard will guide you through the installation process.

Launch iGrid and two things will happen. Number 1, a drawing grid will show up on your desktop. And number 2, a yellow icon will show up in the system tray. Left click this icon to show/hide the drawing grid. Right click it to get a context menu that, among other things, lets you access the iGrid Settings menu.

Here’s what you can do from the aforementioned iGrid Settings menu: choose between an Orthogonal, Axonometric or Handwriting grid; set up a custom Orthogonal, Axonometric or Handwriting grid; pick a custom grid color; adjust the grid’s opacity level; choose if you want iGrid to automatically launch at startup; set a hotkey to show/hide the drawing grid.

iGrid is shareware, free to use for a trial period of 30 days.

If you need to have a drawing grid on your screen, iGrid is perfectly suited for the job. It can place many types of grids on your screen and it can hide them whenever you press the assigned hotkey.

Pros

A simple setup wizard will help you install iGrid on your Windows PC. Three main types of drawing grids are available: Orthogonal, Axonometric and Handwriting grid. You can create a custom grid if you want to. Hide the drawing grid by using the iGrid tray icon or by using a hotkey.

Cons

Trial limitations: 30-day trial, watermark. iGrid hasn’t been updated in many years.
